On Monday, January 2nd at 17:58hrs Norwalk Professional Firefighters received a report of a house fire on Center Avenue.
The assignment was dispatched consisting of Engine Co. 1, Engine Co. 4, and Engine Co. 2 (RIT), Truck Co. 1, Truck Co. 2, Rescue Co. 2 and Car 2 (Shift Commander) with 25 NFD Local 830 firefighters.
Engine Co. 1 and Truck Co. 1 from the Broad River Fire Station arrived to find fire showing from the first floor windows of small wood frame dwelling. A quick and aggressive interior attack of the room and contents fire by first alarm companies held the fire to the area of origin. 3 apartments were located during the course of primary and secondary searches and were negative. A total of 10 occupants and 1 dog have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
During this incident, the last two remaining NFD Engine Companies. Engines 3 & 5 with a total of 8 Norwalk Professional Firefighters were tasked with covering city.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshals Division.
This was one of 3 structural fires NFD Local 830 Firefighters operated at on Monday night which also included two small fires on Taylor Ave and Gregory Blvd.
