Quick NFD response limits damage at South Norwalk house fire

The NFD Local 830 responded to a residential structure fire in “South Norwalk” during the evening hours of Monday, June 24th, 2024.

At approximately 20:16hrs, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received numerous calls reporting a fire on Woodard Ave.

With the Engine Company 5’s station located less than a little mile away from the incident. E-5 quickly arrived and found the front porch heavily involved in fire with good Samaritan’s utilizing a garden hose in an attempt to extinguish the fire. The two occupants in the residence at the time were unaware of the fire until the Good Samaritans alerted them to evacuate.

NFD Firefighters contained the fire to the porch, conducted searches of the residence and checked for further fire extension. The incident was quickly brought under control and damage to the residence was limited due to the rapid response of Norwalk Professional Firefighters with the assistance of the good Samaritan’s whom called 911 and alerted the occupants. A 1st Alarm assignment consisting of 3 Engine Companies, 2 Ladder Companies, a Heavy Rescue Company and Car 2 (Shift Commander) operated on scene with the two remaining NFD Engine Companies covering the rest of the city during this incident.

Two occupants were displaced and no injuries reported to civilians or emergency personnel. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Office.
