The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported Boat Fire on the docks at the South Norwalk Boat Club at 17 Mack Street just before 2300hrs, Friday evening, December 6th. Upon arrival of Engine Co. 5, a 40’ vessel was found fully involved and had quickly extended to an adjacent vessel of similar size due to the moderate wind that was present at the time. Additional exposure vessels docked in the area sustained heat and fire damage as well.

The fire was quickly brought under control by a total of 38 firefighters from three engines, two ladder trucks, a rescue company, three fire boats (from Norwalk, Noroton Heights Fire Department and Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association fire departments) with command staff from Norwalk and Stamford.

The likelihood of a rapid spreading fire and risk of personnel falling into the water, requires additional firefighters to respond to fires of this nature.

The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection responded due to the possibility of environmental impacts from the firefighting operation and/or a fuel spill. No injuries or concerning environmental impacts occurred. The Norwalk Fire Marshals Division is investigating the fire.
