NFD Local 830 Responds Mutual Aid to Rowayton

At 7:58 PM on Wednesday, December 11th. City of Norwalk Local 830 Firefighters responded for the mutual aid house fire at 20 Highland Ave in the Rowayton district of the City.

Initially dispatched as an activated fire alarm for the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department. Upon arrival of RVFD Engine 2, a basement fire was encountered quickly upgrading the assignment to a “working fire” which prompted an automatic mutual aid response from the City of Norwalk Fire Department with 2 Engine Companies, a Truck Company and the Shift Commander.

The fire was extinguished and contained to the basement and first floor in approximately 40 minutes by the 14 Norwalk Professional Firefighters and 11 Rowayton Volunteer Firefighters with the two RVFD Engines, and RVFD Command Staff that operated on scene.

There were no reported injuries to any firefighters or civilians on the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the RVFD Fire Marshal.

The remaining 19 on-duty NFD Local 830 Firefighters with 3 Engine Companies, 1 Truck Company and a Heavy Rescue Company responded to calls for service throughout the City during this incident.
