Overnight Fire Alarm Activation Turns Into Building Fire

On Monday, April 21st at 4:48am. Engine Co. 1 and Truck Co. 1 were dispatched for the fire alarm activation at 173 Main St in the Broad River section of the City.

Upon arrival, NFD Local 830 firefighters encountered a smoke condition and a sprinkler activation on the 2nd floor of the two story commercial occupancy and requested the structure fire assignment be filled out.

NFD companies stretched an attack line to the 2nd floor to extinguish the bulk of the fire that was being contained by the buildings sprinkler system. Searches were completed and negative, the building was ventilated, and the sprinkler system was shut down to prevent further water damage.

A total of 26 Norwalk Professional Firefighters operated on scene with 3 Engine Companies, 2 Truck Companies, the Heavy Rescue Company and Shift Commander.

The building sustained water damage on the 2nd floor.  There were no reported injuries.
 
The NFD Fire Marshal’s Division is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

During this incident the last two available NFD Engine Companies with 8 Firefighters covered the City.
