Simultaneous working Fires on Opposite Ends of the City

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to two nearly simultaneous residential structure fires on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

At approximately 12:46 p.m., the department was dispatched to West Norwalk Road for a report of smoke inside a residence and a possible fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an active fire in the basement of a two-and-a-half-story, single-family home and declared a working fire.

The first-alarm assignment extinguished the fire and declared it under control approximately 55 minutes after firefighters arrived. The Norwalk Fire Department responded with 27 firefighters, including three engine companies, two ladder companies, one rescue company, and command and support staff.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Before resources had cleared the West Norwalk Road incident, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a report of a second house fire on Midrocks Drive at approximately 1:29 p.m. Because companies were still operating at the first fire, the initial response to Midrocks Drive consisted of two available Norwalk engine companies, command staff, and an engine company from the New Canaan Fire Department.

Upon arrival, Engine 4 encountered fire showing from the first floor and heavy smoke throughout the two-and-a-half-story, single-family home. Engine 4 declared a working fire, bringing additional resources to the scene as companies became available from the first incident. The fire was extinguished by the first-alarm assignment and declared under control approximately 35 minutes after firefighters arrived.

The Norwalk Fire Department responded with 27 firefighters, including three engine companies, one ladder company, one rescue company, and command and support staff. The New Canaan Fire Department also responded with one engine company and support personnel. There were no reported injuries to civilians. One firefighter sustained a minor hand injury and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Norwalk Hospital EMS and the Norwalk Police Department provided on-scene support at both incidents. The Rowayton Fire Department provided station coverage while Norwalk companies operated at the fires.
The Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of both fires.
