NFD Local 830 Firefighters were dispatched at 5:02pm on Wednesday, April 17th to assist the
the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department at the scene of a house fire on Crest Rd in the Rowayton section of Norwalk.

NFD Engine Co. 5 was the first to arrive along with RVFD Car 4 and encountered fire coming from the rear of a 1 story wood frame residence. The residences sole occupant was located across the street suffering from smoke inhalation along with a Rowayton Volunteer Firefighter suffering from a wrist laceration.

NFD Engine Co. 5 stretched a handline into the structure in conjunction with coordinated vertical and horizontal ventilation performed by NFD Truck Co. 2 to knock down advanced fire conditions located on the first floor with extension into the attic space in approximately 30 minutes as RVFD Car 1 (Chief of Dept) and NFD Car 2 (Shift Commander) established a “Unified Command Post” at the scene.

15 Norwalk Professional Firefighters operated on scene with 2 NFD Engine Companies, 1 NFD Truck Company, Car 2 (Shift Commander) and Car 7 (Safety Officer) alongside the 2 Rowayton Volunteer FD Engines and their command staff.

Both NFD Local 830 and RVFD Firefighters remained on scene for over an hour chasing hot spots and performing overhaul. Currently, there is one occupant that has been displaced. There was one reported injury to a Rowayton Volunteer firefighter and one reported injury to a 70-year-old male civilian. Both were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The conditions of both are unknown at this time.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by both the Norwalk FD Fire Marshals Division and the Rowayton Fire Marshal.

During this incident, the remaining 19 Norwalk Professional Firefighters staffing 3 Engine Companies, a Truck Company and the Rescue Company responded to numerous calls for service throughout the City.
