On Monday July 15th, at 10:40hrs, City of Norwalk Local 830 firefighters responded to a water rescue incident on East Avenue.
The Water Rescue Assignment was dispatched to the rear parking lot of occupancy on East Ave for a reported female in distress in the Norwalk River.
Prior to the arrival of NFD and NPD units, an alert employee of the nearby rowing club threw the victim a life jacket which enabled them to stay afloat until Engine 4 deployed a rescuer to retrieve the victim. NFD Local 830 Firefighter Dave Dustin and Norwalk Police Officer James Kassimis swam out and brought the victim to shore where they were assisted by members from NFD Engine 4, NFD Rescue 2, NPD Police Officers and Norwalk Hospital EMS. Norwalk FD and PD marine units also responded during this incident.
One NFD firefighter sustained a minor leg injury. The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. The scene was turned over to the Norwalk Police Department to conduct their investigation.
A great job by all agencies involved and the rowing club employee!
This is just another incident that highlights the phenomenal work and coordination between Norwalk Firefighters, Norwalk Police Officers and Norwalk Hospital EMS personnel.
