While most people were sound asleep, your Local 830 City of Norwalk Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Tuesday, May 13th, at 1:55 am.
The fire was located at #19 Adams Ln. in a large 1 story wood frame dwelling. The caller stated there was a kitchen fire in the basement.
NFD Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke coming from the roof and the eaves with fire on the first floor. The fire appears to have originated in the basement and traveled to the floor above via void spaces. NFD Companies were quickly able to knock down the fire and stop it from making its way to the attic. As firefighters knocked down the fire, the building was searched and ventilated. The fire was contained with a 1st alarm assignment consisting of 26 Norwalk Professional firefighters staffing 3 Engine Companies, 2 Ladder Companies, a Heavy Rescue Company, and Shift Commander that were assisted by additional NFD Staff Personal. Norwalk Hospital EMS provided an EMS standby as firefighters extinguished the fire.
Currently, there are 11 occupants displaced by this blaze. There were no injuries reported.
The Norwalk Fire Marshals Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
During this incident the City of Norwalk was covered by the last 2 remaining Engine Companies staffed with a total of 8 NFD Local 830 Firefighters.
